The first image is the logo of the 2012 Olympic Games, held in London. The logo has faced widespread criticism for not following basic graphic design principles such as hierarchy, alignment, contrast, and balance. The most obvious are the typography, choice of color combination, and asymmetrical shapes that are randomly organized. Therefore, it lacks continuity, as the shapes are not pleasing to look at because they lack coherent direction and create a disruptive visual experience. The design doesn’t only lack harmony and balance, but it also makes it hard to associate it with the event. The complementary color scheme feels chaotic and tense, with the pink and yellow creating a harsh contrast that is difficult to look at. The intense clash of these colors is unsettling and makes me nauseous. The logo not only gives outdated vibes, but it also seems like it was designed without thought, effort, and attention to detail. I’ll keep the design simple by using the original colors of the Olympic symbols, changing the font, and maybe incorporating the country’s national symbol, city silhouettes, or landmarks where the event is held. I will focus on keeping the result clean, meaningful, and representative of both the event and its location. The second image is a recycling poster I found online. This design has at least  5 different fonts, each with different colors and an orange background color. Just looking is overwhelming and ineffective, creating a chaotic visual experience that distracts from the main message. Instead of drawing attention to the key points, the fonts with multiple colors are scattered through the page and make it hard to focus in any direction This design lacks multiple graphic principles, and the most obvious ones are hierarchy, alignment, and balance principles. The inconsistent fonts and colors disrupt this hierarchy, leading to confusion about what to read first. At first glance, the complementary color scheme along background color and variety of font styles strain my eyes and urge me to look away. If it wasn’t for the recycling symbol, I wouldn’t have realized it was promoting a recycling event. The excessive variety of font styles and poor color choices are confusing and irritating to look at; therefore, this design does the opposite of its intended goal, discouraging any desire to attend the event. For a recycling post design, I would prioritize more earthly colors such as natural white and green to emphasize a more eco-friendly, calm vibe. The recycling symbol would be prominently placed to draw attention to the viewer. To maintain balance, I would use a mix of larger text for key points and smaller text for supporting details, ensuring the viewer’s eyes move naturally through the content. Finally, I would keep the overall layout clean, organized, and very simple, with enough spacing between elements to ensure a harmonious flow and make it easy to read.
